It was late.

After fumbling inside the Garmon Mines all afternoon, Molly just had to go for a walk at the beach to take in the fresh air. She needed it after inhaling so much strange gases in there. She wondered if she should’ve dropped by the Clinic, but they were probably closed by this hour, and the fresh air was already making her feel better.

She stretched her arms over her head as she breathed in the salty air. The sound of the waves were almost hypnotic, but they made her feel a bit lonely. Maybe she should’ve invited Chase along—She caught herself and blushed, shaking her head frantically at the thought. ‘That was corny…’ Even if no one was around to hear her, she was still glad she hadn’t said it out loud. Selena and Kasey would probably tease her to no end. Besides, even if she did invite him, he was probably still at work anyway. That thought made her feel lonelier, and she wrapped her arms around herself. 

Tiring of the view, she turned around to head back home when she saw someone walking down the path at the corner of her eye.

It took Molly longer to finish her work on the farm today. It must have been the extra crops she’d decided to plant. Halfway through watering them, she’d gotten tired and took a break, and instead of finishing at 10am sharp as usual, it was already lunchtime by the time she reached town. Her stomach grumbled loudly as she wandered around.

‘Darn,’ she thought, ‘I should’ve gone to Flute Fields first. I could’ve asked Chase to make lunch for me…’ Presently, her eyes landed on the inn. It had been a while since she’d dropped by, she might as well buy some lunch and say hello.

“Afternoon!” Molly called as she stepped through the door. She looked around, hoping to meet with a familiar face, and her eyes landed on a blonde girl fixing some tables around. “Hey Maya!” she greeted as she approached the waitress. “Are you the only one here?”

/sigh/ Obviously Gill isn’t ugly. If he’d just lighten up a bit, maybe people would like him more. /laughs lightly/ And uhh…

((Finally finished them all, whoo! So here’s Molly’s genderbend. Selena said “Morgan” would be a nice name. I kinda like “Wolly.” Anyone else got any ideas?))

“Although he’s a good, kind, man…he can be a bit dopey haha. Thanks Molly~ you’re welcome again— seriously? ” his eyes widen, and a grin split across his face. Tomatoes were practically sheer joy, hiding behind a delicious red fruit. “That’d be wonderful Molly, thank you!”

Molly laughed, not expecting that sort of reaction from someone like Gill. “Heck yeah I’m serious! It’s the least I could do!” What a turn of events! She never thought she’d ever get along with Gill. “Well, I’d better get going now. I’ll drop by if I need anything else!”

Nodding, Kasey merely smirked.  Despite how hard he’d been working, he did take some evenings off to wander the island and scope out its geography, but he had no idea that Molly was the one who got the better farm.  

Molly’s question was practically answered in Kasey’s mind.  Right now, really. He’d never say that to her, especially having given her no prior hints that he wanted to be with her.  He never wanted to ruin the friendship they had, and if she ever once had a romantic inkling toward him, he was never made aware of it.  Instead, his grin turned into a smile.  ”I’d like that,” he said, tightening his grip on his arms.  He felt like the biggest idiot.

“Great!” And she felt great. Kasey was one of her most favorite people in the world. She almost didn’t want to leave home because of him, but her pride always got the better of her. Once it was insulted, she plowed ahead without thinking. She felt bad about it now; after all, he was her closest friend, but it was because of that bond that she ended up depending on him for a lot of things. Possibly even took some things for granted…

“You know,” she began a bit hesitantly, “I really thought I’d never see you again.” She laughed at how silly it sounded out loud. “I mean, things were just getting really bad at home, so I left. I just figured you’d understand, but I probably should’ve thought more about how you felt…” She was starting to feel silly again, bringing up old things. “Well anyway, funny how things ended up well, eh, Kase? If only Kevin was here, then that’d be pretty nuts!”

“Best of luck to you, I suppose.” he smiled lightly. “….” he perked up at even the mention of tomatoes. “…Tomatoes? You’re welcome, it wouldn’t have been good if you couldn’t afford enough livestock for your farm….but I’d advise coming to me again, my father is always out on a business trip, or doesn’t quite…understand how to fix bank accounts. “

Molly laughed in spite of herself. “Well, thank goodness Hamilton’s got you around!” She sighed and smiled. “Thanks again, Gill. This is a real big help. I’ll drop some tomatoes off once they’re ready!” She winked and laughed again.

Kasey laughed along, doing his best to hid the annoyed look on his face.  He knew that Molly was joking, but even still; she had a boyfriend now.  Who was this Chase?  Already the farmer’s idea of him was tainted, just knowing that he was the one who took Molly away, but he couldn’t blame her.  Having grown up with her, she probably just thought of him as a brother or something.

A nasty pit grew in his stomach.

“Ha, that’d be fun.” he said, trying to lift his tone into the friendly one she had grown accustomed to.  Even though he was hurt, Kasey certainly didn’t want to take it on on her, of all people.  ”You’ll have to show me around the island sometime, Molls.  I’m still not completely used to it!” he lied, crossing his arms over his chest with a sheepish grin.

Molly cocked her head to the side. “Oh yeah, you’ve been working all month, haven’t you?” Her eye twitched as she recalled her first few weeks on the island…Kasey probably had to go through the same thing. He must’ve been working harder than her though if he didn’t have time for sight-seeing. And if that was the case, he must be really serious about farming…She shrugged the thought away. If Kasey ended up being a better farmer, at least she was losing to a friend instead of some random stranger, right?

“Well now, when have I ever said no to you?” She grinned, resting her hands on her hips. “Anytime you want then, I’ll take you around! I don’t really know everyone here that well, but I’m sure it’ll still be good!”

“Yes, that, but you’re with Chase correct? we got in a huge argument. We’ve made up and such, and this is part of my favor to him. It probably should have been fixed in the first place anyhow. ” Gill stretched his arms out behind him, and yawned. “How has the farm been?”

Molly turned red. Oh yeah, she told him that…Whose idea was it to take that dare again? “Um, y-yeah, we’re, um, together.” She raised a brow when he mentioned the argument, but calmed when Gill explained. She folded her arms across her chest. “It’s been good. The tomatoes are coming out nicely.” She managed a small smile. “And, hey, now that my account is all good, I can probably afford to get some cows, so thanks again for that.”
